School improvement embodies the aim and efforts of the school community to improve the teaching of students.
The role of the Center for School Improvement is to encourage the schools of Lithuania to join the movement towards self-improvement.
The Center was founded by the Open Society Fund - Lithuania. Its activities are based on the work initiated by an OSF project called "Education for the Future of Lithuania".
The Center for School Improvement :
- Liaises between educators who are interested in school improvement;
- Organizes professional school-based training for teachers and other school staff;
- Provides and organizes consultations for interested teaching institutions;
- Gathers and distributes information on school improvement;
- Organizes the research, documentation and analysis of the process of change in schools;
- Provides the means for educators from Lithuania and abroad to exchange knowledge, including by organizing international events;
- Provides consultation and training services to education institutions abroad.

On December 29, 2004 the Center for School Improvement in conjunction with the Vilnius Teachers' House and the Vilnius municipality established a Learning and Information Center for the Vilnius teaching community.
